Get a taste of Turkey, through İrmik Helvası or semolina halva, a mouth watering dessert. The Sub-Continent’s suji ka halwa is an inspiration of this delectable delight.
- Sugar 1 cup
- Milk 1 cup
- Semolina 1 cup
- Water 1 cup
- Butter 4 tbsp
- Pine Nut 4 tbsp
Put the milk, water and sugar in a small saucepan and stir on a medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
Bring it to boil and remove from heat.
Put the butter and pine nuts in a large saucepan and stir on low heat for few minutes.
Add the semolina and stir until golden brown in color.
Add the milk mixture very carefully, heat may splash it around.
Cover the saucepan and cook on a low heat until the milk mixture is totally soaked into the semolina.
Turn the heat off and continue to stir for few minutes until the halva settles.
Let the halva cool down in the covered saucepan.
Pour in a lightly greased mold.
When serving, turn it upside down on a plate and shake lightly till it comes out.
(You can also serve irmik Helvasi slightly warm or cold with ice cream)
